This is a sequel series to A Man of His Word After I had finished that work and the books were in publication, I realized that one thing Rap had done must inevitably upset the elaborate system of magic and politics governing the world of Pandemia. Evil would find the loophole and prosper. Rather reluctantly--in my case, and very reluctantly in Rap's case--there would have to be another adventure. It turned out larger and more epic than the first, and most readers seemed to find it an improvement on its predecessor, which is certainly unusual for sequels.
